Composition
Andrew Daniels' compositions
have been performed by a variety of ensembles including Firebird,
Ixion, Balanescu String Quartet and the London Sinfonietta.
In contrast with many of his film works, Andrew’s
pieces for the concert hall are often drawn from more abstract
ideas that follow compositional strategies of a more progressive nature.
The Musical Times said that
there is "a palpable delight in the act of composition
itself, a relish in the subjective", with pieces such as Reflections at Dawn,
String quartet no.1 and Duende reflecting the influence of recent
advances in frequency based compositional ideas.
This
textural, colourist approach is combined with often complex
linear writing in pieces such as Mirage D’azure and
Recall/Derivatives producing soundscapes that The Times
newspaper refered to as "Alive and vital".
In between various commitments in film and jazz, Andrew is currently composing a new piece for ensemble, utilising research into acoustical analysis and re-sysnthesis, fractal and other ideas.
